My love of shoes

Today while shopping my daughter said to me "Mummy, I don't like high heels'. This statement alone shocked me into silence, had I taught her nothing? After all I feel only truly at home in a pair of black stilettos (and the higher the better in my opinion). My wardrobe alone is taken over by my many, many shoes. Beautiful bejewelled sandals, cute ballet flats, pairs of boots and of course my beloved stilettos (of which I own at least thirty alone).

I tried so hard to look like a modest and humble woman for a long time, well my version of it anyway. I brought ankle length skirts, high necked tops and flat shoes. My husband hated every moment of it and so it was back to my high heels, liquid eyeliner and hair straightener. Of course I have nothing against women who do dress like that (and I commend them actually) but you know it just wasn't me! Of course I still wear all my skirts at just below knee length and I cover any cleavage but I did learn that fashion is not a sin.

So when my daughter stated this to me I could not believe my ears, after all I almost treat my shoes like close friends to be cherished. Even though it will be many years before she wears them herself I wanted her to develop a love of her own for them.So what could I do? Wash her mouth out? Pretend I hadn't heard? I decided to delve deeper to find out more, when questioned she admitted she thought they looked like they would break when they were walked on. I can tell you now that I gave a huge sight of relief and proceeded to give a brief lecture on the physics of high heels.

The lecture finished we made our way to leave the store when her eyes lit up over a pair of particularly exquisite gold stiletto sandals. I must say I felt a surge of pride as I realised that she certainly is her mothers daughter :).

Oh Bonnie you and I are such kindred spirits... Okay I'm not a hughe high high hill girl because I'm 5'10" tall. However!!! Shoes make me so happy :O) I have shoes on the back of my bedroom door, and under my bed lined up in a fashionable row, and then under my great grandma's hutch, and then a few pairs down in the laundry room :O) And I have to admit that I love it when my little butterfly goes to her bedroom door and starts pulling shoes out to put on her feet and wear around :O) I was even more happy when she was trying to walk in a pair of my high hills on Monday night :O) I'm happy you are passing on the love of shoes and fashion.

I have to let you know that I did struggle with fashion and skirts myself. Thankfully I was reminded of the Grace of Jesus Christ :O) I love slacks and khaki pants and skirts and jeans and bermuda jean shorts and capris! And I love dressing modestly and with fashion ;O)

Oh your post just made me a very happy girl!! Thank you for sharing....

Simplebeauty-I readily admit I shouldn't be parading around in such high shoes because I am 5'8" and not exactly on the short and petite side myself! But I just can't help myself.

I laughed when I read how many places you have your shoes 'stashed'. I think the more space I have the more shoes I collect :)

LOL! I had to laugh. I suspect I'm missing a vital gene because I'm just so not into shoes. I usually wear them until they fall apart. And to top it off, I am short (5'1.2") and could probably carry off the high heels with ease. I do have one pair of handmade leather boots that I adore but other than that my wardrobe is quite sparse when it comes to shoes. In fact I could count on one hand the shoes that I do have and wear. Hope this doesn't mean that I can't still visit with you! LOL

BTW, you do deserve that award. Be proud of it.

Bonnie :O)

I'm glad you are tall and wear high hills...Maybe just maybe I should pull out a few of my shoe's that make me six foot ;O) I have a lovely cork wedge sandal that makes me super tall but they are so comfy and cute!! I just need it to be a bit warmer outside. I hope you know that you truly do encourage me to do things I seem to put off for lack of courage! Thank you....

Have a wonderful weekend!
