Long hair

My hair is not really that long compared to others I suppose. It certainly is the longest in our church congregation of two hundred. It's layered but at the back it is only a few inches up from my waist band, long hair is definitely in the minority these days.I'm looking forward to the day when I can sit on it!!

One of my resolutions this year is to start wearing my hair in much prettier and feminine styles, I usually just wear it down or in a plain bun but today I found the greatest blog for beautiful and Victorian type hairstyles.

Now I have no excuse for not looking like a princess :)

A perfect day for a pie

I love apple pie although I don't really get the chance to eat it often, I guess that fruit pies just aren't that popular in New-Zealand. But this morning when I was at the farmers market they had the most gorgeous Granny Smith apples and as we were having friends and family around for a BBQ, I decided to make an apple pie for dessert, I've only made it once before in my life so I thought I did quite well.

I however did change the recipe I found around quite alot, I also decided at the last minute to throw in some blackberries, there was alot of juice left over from the apple/berry mix so I'm going to use in it the Strawberry Jam that I plan on making on Monday

I love baking, it truly is one of my greatest joys in life.

Plum picking

Yesterday Aviva and I headed out on a trip about an hours drive from the place we have been staying to go fruit picking. Unfortunately the strawberry patch was closed but the plum trees were just bursting with fruit, so we had a great day picking buckets of plums and this afternoon I plan on making plum jam and was going to make some plum cordial but could not find a recipe that did not include alcohol so instead I am going to try my hand at making ginger beer-I'm a little nervous because I've heard many stories of the bottles blowing up in the fermenting process, but nothing lost, nothing gained I suppose!

Because every girl needs to shine

While out shopping yesterday Aviva and I came upon these shoes at a very good price so I brought them for her and she has been so happy ever since, people keep telling her she looks just like Dorothy :) Aviva has never been a 'girly' girl but today as I watched her running down the hill her shawl wrapped around her shoulders, her hair streaming behind her, her sparkly shoes reflecting the sunlight and her laughter echoing behind her I am reminded that my little girl is quickly growing up and becoming a young lady.

Blink and you miss it right?

I am reminded that every moment with our children is so incredibly precious. Every moment should aways count.

But that's not the end of my shoe story...

I brought some to match!!

Which just goes to show that inside every grown woman is a little girl who loves to still play dress ups.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!!! New-Zealand is the first country in the world to see in the new year, and what a lovely start it was! We had a BBQ and singstar with friends (where I of course was beaten by everyone, including my own daughter) and then we saw in 2010 on a local beach, it was a lovely beginning to what I pray is going to be an amazing year for all :)
